Working Near or Adjacent to DC Conductor Rails (DCCR) Initial

Rail course covering safely carrying out work in a DCCR environment in line with Network Rail Standards.

Agenda

Session 1

  • The principles of the DC electrified system
  • The main components of the DC conductor rail system
  • Hazards and risks associated with being near or adjacent to the DC conductor rail
  • How to cross the DC conductor rail safely
  • How to transit tools and equipment safely across the DC conductor rail
  • Describe defects that would render insulated tools and equipment unfit for purpose
  • Identify hazards associated with working within DC Isolations
  • The work safe and emergency response procedures

Session 2

  • Demonstrate how to inspect insulated tools before use
  • Demonstrate the correct application and removal of conductor rail shields
  • Identify defective tools and shields
  • Identify the three risk control areas as stated in NR/L3/MTC/EP0152
  • Demonstrate how to cross the conductor rail safely
  • Hazards affecting the use of ladders and step ladders
  • Explain how to safely transit tools, materials and equipment within the DC electrified area
  • Demonstrate how to apply a Track Circuit Operating Clip safely

Course Aims

This DCCR course provides delegates with the knowledge required to safely carry out their duties in DC electrified areas in line with current Network Rail standards.

The Working Near or Adjacent to DC Conductor Rails (DCCR) is a one day course for those who already hold a Personal Track Safety (PTS) card.

Only an authorised Sentinel co-ordinator may make bookings on this course.

Certification

All course results will be notified to the Rail Sentinel database and the Sentinel Smart Card of the individual will be updated.


Training provided by Intertrain (RTAS 0460)

Who Should Attend

Those who are required to work near or adjacent to DC Conductor Rail. This is an extra module to the current PTS course and can be delivered as a stand alone course for those already in possession of the current PTS DC competency or who are transferring into a DC electrified area and currently hold PTS only.
