Woodchippers - LANTRA

LANTRA course with theory and practical training session and assessment covering the maintenance of Woodchippers, safety guidelines and appropriate techniques.<br>

Agenda

This one-day course persists of both theory and practical aspects: 

ΓÇó Produce a site-specific risk assessment for wood chipping operations. 
ΓÇó State the principles of Health and Safety Executive legislation and safety guidelines for using a woodchipper. 
ΓÇó Select the appropriate personal protective equipment and state the maintenance requirements. 
ΓÇó Carry out operator checks and identify the safety features of a woodchipper. 
ΓÇó Carry out routine operator maintenance. 
ΓÇó Inspect and identify defects on the blades.
ΓÇó Prepare machine prior to operation, start the machine, carry out safety checks and stop machine.
ΓÇó Prepare a work area and a range of materials for chipping and identify hazardous materials not to be chipped. 
ΓÇó Use approved techniques to chip woody brash and both short and long sections of timber safely and effectively. 
ΓÇó State the procedure for removing blockages. 
ΓÇó State the safety and environmental factors associated with the disposal of woodchips and the various end uses of woodchips. 
ΓÇó Prepare machine for transport and storage.

Course Aims

This course aims to provide the knowledge to safely operate and maintain woodchipper machines with confidence. This is a hands-on course that includes both health and safety and practical elements which supply sufficient training to meet The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations.

Certification

Upon completion of this course, delegates will receive a LANTRA accredited certificate that does not expire. However, it is advised and is business best practice that delegates attend a refresher course every 5 years.

Who Should Attend

Anyone with an interest or employment in arboriculture, forestry, horticulture, landscaping, or grounds maintenance. 

You do not need any pre-requisites to attend this course. However, please note that due to the nature of the training a minimum level of fitness will be required for specific operations. Whilst we would not want to disadvantage you as a learner, it is an essential requirement.
