Agenda

TRiM is a trauma-focused peer support system design of risk assessment and ongoing support to assist
people who have experienced a traumatic, or potentially traumatic, event. TRiM practitioners will be given
knowledge and understanding to recognise likely reactions to traumatic incidents and provide structured risk
assessments, aiming to identify people needing early referral to qualified medical support. They will be able to
provide a system of ongoing method of intervention, monitoring and support for small groups or one to one.

Course Aims

To provide non-medical personnel with the knowledge and skills to:
 

Understand the background to and rationale for post incident
psychological management.
Understand the basic psychological principles relating to traumatic
stress.
Understand the range of psychological responses to traumatic
incidents.
Provide post incident education about responses to trauma, selfhelp
strategies and how to signpost personnel to effective help.
Be able to carry out an interview and assessment of groups and/or
individuals using a structured format to identify those at
heightened risk so that they can be encouraged to seek proper
help.
Supporting and advising managers on the basis of proper
psychological risk assessments.
Manage requests for help about general mental health (non-TRiM)
issues.
