Suicide First Aid - Understanding Suicide Prevention

With the growing importance of mental health and suicide prevention now critical topics across all industries, this accredited course has never been more relevant. The Suicide First Aid (SFA) course equips delegates with the skills to recognise when someone may be at risk and to respond effectively.

Agenda

This course is accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) and delivered by the National Centre for Suicide Prevention, Education & Training. Designed as part of a nationally recognised learning pathway, it also offers delegates the opportunity to upskill to a Level 4 Qualification, making it a valuable Continuous Professional Development (CPD) option for delegates across multiple sectors. 

Throughout the day, delegates will take part in group discussions, exercises, breakout rooms, videos and skills practice. The digital workbook will guide delegates through each of the 4 sessions.

Key areas covered: 

Recognition & Prevention: Creating a positive culture where mental health, including suicide prevention, is prioritised in health, safety & wellbeing policies and strategies. Training people to spot signs of distress and supporting and guiding them to appropriate support services.

Intervention: Upon recognising signs of distress, providing clear steps for responding when someone is at risk, creating a safe space for a conversation, listening & understanding without judgement and signposting to professional and other support.

Postvention: Working together on a support plan/strategy for those affected by suicide in the workplace, including sensitive communication, respecting privacy and providing space for grieving.

Course Aims

This training is designed in line with the upcoming British standard BS 30480, the first national standard addressing suicide prevention in the workplace, ensuring the course reflects the latest best practice. 

The Suicide First Aid Course is designed to provide delegates with the knowledge and practical skills to recognise the warning signs of suicide, initiate safe and supportive conversations and take appropriate steps to prevent crisis. 

Delegates will explore effective strategies for intervention and postvention, focusing on providing compassionate support and practical guidance to individuals and teams affected by suicide.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the Suicide First Aid - Understanding Suicide Prevention Course, delegates will receive a certificate issued by the National Centre for Suicide Prevention, Education & Training. 

The course is accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH), ensuring it meets nationally recognised quality standards. 

This certification demonstrates your practical skills and understanding in suicide prevention, intervention and postvention.
