NRSWA - Operative

NRSWA course with theory and practical training session and assessment covering skills required to carry out highways reinstatement work in line with NRSWA.

Agenda

  • Risks associated with striking underground apparatus 
  • Recognising the signs of underground services and interpreting utility plans
  • Using tools to locate underground structures
  • Marking services ready for excavation
  • An awareness of signing, lighting and guarding the workplace and the erection of temporary traffic signals
  • Methods of excavation, safety measures and the use of road drills etc. and how to support utility apparatus within the excavation
  • Selection and storage of excavated materials for re-use
  • Placing and compaction of backfill and sub-base materials
  • Laying and compaction of cold-lay bituminous materials
  • Theory and Practical Assessments

 

Course Aims

To provide delegates with the requisite skills and knowledge to perform operative duties in compliance with the NRSWA Act 1991, which stipulates the safety measures for themselves and others.

All events will cover NRSWA LA, O1-O5 & O8 as standard. If you require NRSWA O6 - Reinstatement in hot-lay bituminous materials or NRSWA O7 - Reinstatement of concrete slabs, as an essential part of your training, please contact 0345 605 0006 for further information.

Certification

Delegates successfully completing the course will receive either a certificate from City and Guilds, Certification and Assessment Board for the Water Industry (CABWI) or Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) dependent upon location of course.

This certificate is valid for 5 years.

Who Should Attend

This course is for those delegates who reinstate roadways in line with the 2nd Edition Specification for reinstatement of openings in the Highway and the New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991 (NRSWA), revised 2002 Code of Practice.

New Roads and Street Works (NRSWA) training is compulsory for anyone who may be involved in working on and adjacent to the public highways.

Pre-Requisites: The minimum entry requirement is a good understanding of spoken and written English.
