NRSWA - Monitoring Signing, Lighting & Guarding (Novice)

This novice NRSWA course with theory and practical training session and assessment covering the skills required to carry out sign, light and guard street works in line with NRSWA.

Agenda

This 1-day novice course teaches you how to:
ΓÇó Conduct site surveys to identify site requirements.
ΓÇó Ensure pedestrian safety and access.
ΓÇó Reduce traffic disruption and maintain traffic safety.
ΓÇó Consider 'special needs' of site users.
ΓÇó Estimate the 'working space' needed for plant and equipment.
ΓÇó Perform on-site risk assessment and establish a safe system of working.
ΓÇó Choose and use PPE appropriately.
ΓÇó Set up and remove temporary footways, traffic lanes and safety zones.
ΓÇó Check equipment is fit for use.
ΓÇó Position SLG equipment on site correctly
ΓÇó Commission and de-commission signals properly
ΓÇó Adjust signal controls to suit traffic conditions.
ΓÇó Work safely and follow best practices.
ΓÇó Check equipment is fit for use.
ΓÇó Demonstrate sufficient knowledge through oral or written questions.

Course Aims

This course teaches supervisors how to monitor operatives who set up Signing, Lighting & Guarding equipment on public roads, as required by the New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991.

This course is suitable for delegates who are new to the New Roads and Streetworks.

Certification

Delegates successfully completing the course will receive either a certificate from City and Guilds, Certification and Assessment Board for the Water Industry (CABWI) or Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) dependent upon location of course.

This certificate is valid for 5 years.

Who Should Attend

This course is for those delegates who need to renew their certificate to supervise the reinstatement of roadways in line with the 2nd Edition Specification for reinstatement of openings in the Highway and the New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991 (NRSWA), revised 2002 Code of Practice.

New Roads and Street Works (NRSWA) training is compulsory for anyone who may be involved in working on and adjacent to the public highways.

Pre-Requisites: The minimum entry requirement is a good understanding of spoken and written English.
