This course is designed to train persons who have been nominated by their line manager/sponsor to enable them to attain the Engineering Supervisor (ES) competence. The ES competence is required to be held by anyone who is required to set up and manage a worksite within an engineering possession on the rail infrastructure under the direction of a Person in Charge of Possession (PICOP). This includes the management of on and off-tracking On Track Plant (OTP) and train movements within the designated work site.
The ES course will take delegates through the procedures as set out in the Rule Book; Handbook 12 (Duties of the engineering supervisor) and Handbook 13 (Duties of the person in charge of the siding). The course includes the importance of using the correct communication protocols and adopting the appropriate behaviours to be able to carry out this role safely and effectively.

Must bring Sentinel smart card with valid PTS, COSS or IWA and COSS/IWA Logbook (not in probationary status).
Network Rail Handbook modules 1, 6, 7, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15 (we recommend that you revise these modules before attending the course).
It is the Sponsors responsibility to ensure candidates booked onto the course are eligible for the training they are to receive and in line with any relevant medical level or restriction that may apply, in accordance with NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements.
Please be aware that candidates will be treated on a training event as if they are at work and they must comply with the relevant medical policy and bring their Sentinel Smartcard which will be swiped at the start of the course.
Must be a minimum age of 18.
Meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements to minimum medical level 2 (must have normal colour vision) and Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/051 (Drugs & Alcohol).
Must have sufficient command of English language, and of the English language as detailed in Network Rail Company Specification NR/S/CTM/021 (Competence & Training in Track Safety).
Must bring Sentinel smart card with valid PTS, COSS or IWA and COSS/IWA Logbook (not in probationary status).

It is the responsibility of the individual trainees Manager to decide upon their suitability to attend the course in accordance with the current issue of NR/L2/CTM/021 Competence & Training in Track Safety.
Following successful completion of the ES Initial training, candidates will enter into a 4 month probation period whereby the sponsor is responsible for mentoring them. The mentoring must be logged in the ES Work Experience Log Book for the candidate to be eligible for further assessment. Within this period, the candidate must have undertaken an Initial ES Assessment with an approved training provider.

Only an authorised Sentinel co-ordinator may make bookings on this course.
Upon successful completion of this course, competencies will be uploaded to Sentinel.

2 years ΓÇô however, a workplace assessment is required within the first 4 months of holding the competency and another one between 9 and 15 months
