Emergency Lighting Part 1: Design

This course is to give delegates the knowledge to design, install and maintain an emergency lighting system. <br>

Topics covered within the Emergency Lighting Part 1 course include:

  • Basic regulations, relevant Standards, and when emergency lighting is needed
  • Types of emergency lighting
  • Exit sign pictograms, luminance and viewing distances
  • Luminance requirements, lux levels, uniformity, and duration requirements
  • Emergency lighting for cinema and theatre auditoria
  • Choosing maintained or non┬¡maintained luminaries
  • Design procedures covering all points of emphasis, such as stairs
  • Using manufacturersΓÇÖ spacing tables for escape routes and open areas
  • Simple designs for high risk areas
  • Conversion of mains luminaries for emergency use, achieving lux levels and using conversion spacing tables
  • Disability glare and colour requirements
  • Basic installation, wiring and fuse protection
  • Testing and servicing to BS 5266-8
  • Automatic testing

Course Aims

Pre-Requisites

There are no pre-requisites for the Emergency Lighting Part 1 course, however it is recommended that delegates have a basic knowledge of lamps and light fittings.


Aims

This 1-day course enables fire safety professionals to design, install and maintain an emergency lighting system. The training focuses on BS 5266-1, a guide book for emergency lighting.

On successful completiton of this course you can take our Emergency Lighting Part 2: Advanced maintenance and operation course.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course and passing the exam, delegates will receive a digital certificate of attendance.

This course is suitable for engineers with a basic knowledge of lamps and light fittings, and more experienced engineers looking to provide advice on emergency lighting, design lighting schemes and be install, test, and maintain emergency lighting as required.
