CPCS - A73 Vehicle Marshaller - Novice

Vehicle Marshaller Operator course with practical training session and assessment.

Agenda

  • Explain the duties role and responsibilities and any limitations, including the procedures when capabilities are exceeded, of those marshalling or guiding the movement of plant and vehicles in a variety of situations or locations
  • Outline the hierarchy of control measures for plant and vehicle movement, and the requirements of a work management traffic plan
  • Outline the legislative requirements and procedures relating to plant and vehicles accessing or egressing for the public highway, and the effects on other road users
  • Explain types, attributes, limitations, hazards, and stability factors on a range of typical plant and work-related vehicles relevant to the occupational area or sector
  • Explain the requirements of and types, functionality, advantages and limitations of a range of driver visibility aids for a range of occupationally relevant plant and vehicles
  • Explain how ground conditions and features, proximity hazards and weight limits can affect the operations of plant and vehicles for different access points and work areas
  • Explain the importance and locations of positions of safety for a marshaller and other personnel
  • Describe and use different types of communication methods for receiving and communicating vehicle and plant movements
  • Communicate vehicle and plant movement information to drivers/operators and others involved with related operations, including when plant or vehicles must stop
  • Explain the procedures to be followed if given information is insufficient and/or there is deviation for the given safe system of work
  • Access and confirm that the area for plant and vehicles movement remains suitable for manoeuvring activities, exclusion zones are maintained and contains suitable locations to undertake marshalling duties
  • Select appropriate sector-specific PPE and resources suitable for marshalling duties
  • Guide and assist the movement of and position at given exact locations, a range of typical plant and vehicles using the approved code of signals
  • Guide and assist plant and vehicles into and from restricted areas using forward and reverse motions using the approved code of signals
  • Guide and assist the movement of plant to support the duties being carried out by a plant operator
  • Ensure the manoeuvring area is kept and left safe during operations, and following the departure of plant and vehicles
  • Theory Test - sample questions
  • Practical Test - sample assessment

Course Aims

To provide delegates with the knowledge and practical skills to safely operate as a Vehicle Marshaller, delivered through a combination of classroom-based tutorials and practical training and exercises.

Certification

This course will give delegates a CPCS Red Trained Operator card (on successful completion of CPCS technical tests). 


Trained Operator Card (RED) 

The Trained Operator Card confirms a level of core skills, knowledge, and understanding that can be applied in the workplace until measured as competent against national standards. Experienced and capable operators may hold a Trained Operator Card while working towards an SVQ or NVQ. 

If you hold or have held a previous CPCS card and wish to progress, please let us know before booking. 

Once youΓÇÖve obtained your Red CPCS Trained Operator Card, it is valid for 2 years. During this time, you are expected to complete an NVQ in Plant Operations to progress to a Blue CPCS Competence Card. 

If you have not completed your NVQ within the 2-year period, the accreditation body, NOCN-CPCS, may allow a grace period provided you are registered and booked onto an NVQ course. For further guidance on eligibility and next steps, please contact our team. 


Competent Operator Card (BLUE) 

The Competent Operator Card confirms that the holder has demonstrated health and safety awareness (via the CITB Health, Safety, and Environment test), underpinning knowledge (via a CPCS theory test), operating ability (via a CPCS practical test), and operating competence on the type of plant (evidenced by an SVQ, NVQ, or employer confirmation of competence).

Who Should Attend

This course is suitable for anyone who requires training in the role of a Plant and Vehicle Marshaller or if you wish to refresh or update your skills. It is suitable for those who have no prior experience or those who have some experience but have received no formal instruction.

Pre-requisites

You must have a basic understanding and knowledge of current Health & Safety issues. The relevant CITB Health Safety & Environment touchscreen test must be current and in date (completed within the last 24 months).

Failure to arrive on the course with the relevant test completed and in date, will result in your not being permitted to undertake the exams at the end of the course. No refund will be given for exams cancelled as a result of you not having the relevant test completed.
